Listen

I have seldom found people arguing how prayers can’t make miracles happen. While there are those who say this may be true, but what they all fail to realize is that each prayer does get answered, in its own way, but we just need to be able to pay more attention and listen a bit deeper. What does the term listening mean here? Does it involve listening to someone? I don’t believe so. Listening here in fact is linked with “noticing or recognizing” how our questions and request for guidance get answered i.e. sometimes the answer comes from living the question or through signs and symbols. etc.

For instance, a person who lost their parents to a deadly disease might be praying day and night for them to get back to him so that his pain might end. Day after day, he would pray harder. While he may never get his parents back, but through prayers he might get the answer on how to end his pain. He would find peace in each time he prays and reflect on his time he spent with them. Every person who is praying does so with a vulnerable sincerity deserving of our unreserved reverence, the lost love. Every prayer is a way for them to reach out for support and they entrust their hopes and the gratitude and the deep spiritual need in each of these prayers. But at the same time, they need to listen how a silent swish of fresh breeze of air might be an answer to what they are wishing for. It might be a symbol to getting answers for everything they yearn for. Each prayer is essentially an idea of cultivating a deeper practice of interdependence, gratitude, and awe.

As far as miracles are concerned, a prayer may not bring water to parched land, nor mend a broken bridge, nor rebuild a ruined city overnight, but prayer can water an arid soul, mend a broken heart, and rebuild a weakened will if a person is able to recognize the answer.
